Types ( top )
There are 2 types of email plans:
Accounts
- This is your typical email account that can send and receive emails.
- This email account can be accessed as a standard IMAP account, using your PC, smartphone or tablet email application. It can also be accessed via a web email page.
Forwarders
- A forwarder simply forwards an email onto other email accounts. Sometimes a forwarder email is referred to as a distribution list because it distributes the email to other email accounts.
- For example, a forwarder could be created for "info@example.com" which forwards any emails onto john@example.com, jane@other.com and jim@acme.com. In this example, amy email sent to info@example.com is distributed to the 3 email accounts.
- Sometimes a forwarder is also referred to as an alias because it can forwarded emails to one common email account.
- For example, "enquiry@example.com" might be your email account that you prefer to check for emails coming in from the outside world. You could create a forwarder "info@example.com" that forwards directly to "enquiry@example.com". In other words, "info" is an alias for "enquiries".
- You cannot send emails with a forwarder plan, it only forwards emails onto to other email accounts.
- You can receive emails sent to a forwarder email address if it is configured to forward that email to an email account that you have access to.
Expiry ( top )
Once an email plan expires, the following occurs:
For email accounts:
- Any emails sent to the forwarder will be bounced back to the sender with a "unknown user" error message.
- The email account will no longer be able to send or receive email.
- Any emails stored on the server will not be accessible, but can be assessed if the plan is extended.
- Any email accounts that has expired for more than 1 month will be deleted permanently, and any emails still stored on the server will not be recoverable.
- It is important to locally back-up or archive any emails that need to be kept BEFORE the plan expires, and especially within 30 days of it expiry to avoid permanently losing the emails.
- Any emails that you backup, archive, or copy to local folders on your device that are not stored on the server will continue to be accessible.
For forwarder accounts:
- Any emails sent to the forwarder will be bounced back to the sender with a "unknown user" error message.
- Any email accounts configured to receive forwarded emails will no longer receive emails from the forwarder email address.
